Married as a Follower
There is this misconception when it comes to being married as a follower of Jesus that marriage is lifeless. That there are sets of rules you are required to follow and no room to have fun or just enjoy each other. The reality is that when you view a lot of marriages, even inside the church, there is a lot of hidden hurt, anger, resentment, and lack of intimacy. It stems from not understanding the playbook. The Bible gives us great instruction and a step-by-step guide to not just our marriages but our lives. Every answer to every question is right here at our fingertips.
When we take a deep dive into our marriage there is a lot to uncover. The root of it all comes from the very beginning. God created marriage and it is awesome. Genesis 2:24 - 24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Jesus even says this in Matthew 19:4-6.
When we can understand that we are joined with our spouse and we now become one, it changes everything. That every word I speak, the decisions I make, thoughts I have is representative of my spouse. Now, that can seem like a lot of pressure, but this can also be such a weight off our shoulders. You will never have to do this all alone. You now know that you have someone that has your back all ways. Not just always and forever, but they are there all ways. When you are happy, when you are sad, when you are angry, when you gain weight when you lose weight when you have children together. When you struggle and when you succeed, you have someone that is there and loves you all ways and every season life throws at you.
When Jesus says, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate”, that carries a ton of weight. When we do marriage the way God designed it, it is guaranteed not to fail.
